More than 10 million Double Downs were sold south of the border in less than a month!

Renowned as the world’s first-ever bunless sandwich, the KFC Canada Double Down boasts two pieces of deliciously seasoned Original Recipe boneless chicken, two pieces of bacon and processed Pepper Jack cheese — all topped off with the Colonel’s savoury, secret sauce. “Double Down has so much 100 per cent, premium seasoned chicken, we didn't have room for a bun,” explains Dan Howe, Chief Marketing Officer, Yum! Restaurants Canada.

Double Down is definitely a big, indulgent, occasional eat, but contrary to myth and speculation, Double Down has less, fat and calories than a deluxe burger with fries; a large restaurant sandwich; or a big steak dinner with all the fixings.

“Double Down is delicious, but we know it’s not for everyone,” says Howe. “It’s an occasional indulgence that Canada has a hunger for, which is why we’re introducing it for a limited time, until November 14th.

With values rooted in fostering
healthy and inclusive communities, Cadbury recognizes the need for this vital education and
today announces the launch of the Cadbury Right To Play promotion. This unique initiative is
part of a three-year partnership with Canadian-based humanitarian organization Right To Play,
and will help change the lives of at least 4,000 children in developing countries.

Right To Play uses sport and play programs to provide life saving and life transforming lessons
to children in 23 countries affected by war, poverty and disease in Africa, Asia, the Middle East
and South America. Life lessons include games such as “Malaria Area,” which helps children
understand the impact of a mosquito bite and the precautions they need to take to stay safe and
healthy. The program is also supported by a star-studded roster of Right To Play Athlete
Ambassadors, including Team Canada Olympic gold medalists, Hayley Wickenheiser and Joe
Thornton; Hockey Hall of Famer, Luc Robitaille; hockey legend, Joe Sakic and all star and
hockey Olympian, Zdeno Chara, who know first-hand the true power of sport to teach life skills,
health, community and cooperation.

“Cadbury is committed to forming partnerships that help address global social, economic and
environmental concerns and supporting the positive development of children is vital to this
objective,” says Gary Scullion, General Manager, Cadbury North America - Canada. “This
program builds on the work we did last year in distributing 5,000 bikes to children in more than
200 communities in Ghana, Africa, providing kids in need with a reliable means of travel to
school. Through Right To Play, we’re now empowering Canadians to support an organization
dedicated to help children gain the skills they need to succeed in life.”

Starting April 5, 2010 through July 31, 2010, Canadians can participate by visiting
www.cadburyplaypower.ca and help Cadbury provide at least 4,000 kids in disadvantaged
communities with much-needed lessons on safety, disease, hope and co-operation through
year-long curriculum programs taught by Right To Play.

On the website, consumers can enter the UPC code from any participating Cadbury
confectionery product; for each UPC entered, Cadbury will donate one life lesson to a child
through Right To Play. A year-long, Right To Play curriculum program for one child includes 100
life lessons and Cadbury’s aim is to provide more than 400,000 life lessons to kids who need
them the most.

400,000 UPCs = 400,000 life lessons = a one year curriculum for 4,000 children

In addition to giving life lessons through participating Cadbury UPC codes on
www.cadburyplaypower.ca, one lucky Canadian and a friend will win an experience of a lifetime;
the opportunity to join gold medal-winning, Right to Play Athlete Ambassador, Hayley
Wickenheiser, on a special field mission to Ghana, Africa, to teach life-changing skills to young
people.
Ghana is one of the 23 countries around the world where Right To Play does its good work and
the country also holds special significance for Cadbury. Cadbury has been sourcing cocoa from
Ghana for more than 100 years and is positively impacting the country’s socio-economic and
environmental sustainability through partnerships and programs.

“My involvement in sports has taught me so much about teamwork, leadership, communication
and playing fair; positive skills that every child needs to thrive and grow,” says Wickenheiser.
“I am proud to be involved in this great initiative and look forward to joining the Cadbury Right
To Play program grand prize winner in Ghana to help more children become champions in their
own lives.”

Participating Cadbury brands include chocolate favourites, such as Caramilk and Dairy Milk;
leading gum brands like Trident, Dentyne and Stride; Maynards candy, including Maynards
Wine Gums, Sour Patch Kids and Sour Cherry Blasters; and all Halls products. Full rules and
contest details are available at: www.cadburyplaypower.ca.

Right To Play is the leading international humanitarian and development organization using the
transformative power of sport and play to build essential skills in children and thereby drive
social change in communities affected by war, poverty and disease. Right To Play creates a
safe place for children to learn and fosters the hope that is essential for children to envision and
realize a better future. The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child guides our
work. Right To Play programs target the most marginalized individuals including girls, persons
with disabilities, children affected by HIV and AIDS, street children, former child combatants and
refugees. Currently, Right To Play is reaching 700,000 children around the world each week
through their sport and play programs.

The combination of Kraft Foods and Cadbury creates a global powerhouse in snacks,
confectionery and quick meals. With annual revenues of approximately $50 billion, the
combined company is the world’s second largest food company, making delicious products for
billions of consumers in more than 160 countries. Another 70+ brands
generate annual revenues of more than $100 million. And not long ago, I tasted their new dressings, and it was quite interesting. I tried the raspberry flavor, and I quite liked it. Actually, when you read the label, it is suprising how simple and natural it is.

Also, I have tasted what they call the “Sizzling Salads”. Its a duo pack that they sell at the grocery store - you have your marinade for your meat, and your dressing for your salad, all in one box.

This is totally not my style to buy prepared dressings and marinades, but I must say, it was pretty tasty.

I might consider buying more on a hot summer day when it’s not time to cook, but time to have fun in the sun.

Happy eating.

I do struggle a lot with allergies in the summertime. It’s almost unbearable.
But I was told about these Halls being good help for allergy sufferers. Well, I need to get myself a caisse!

A recent national study by HALLS, conducted by Léger Marketing, reveals that 95% of affected Canadians admit that their symptoms get in the way of them feeling their best, which can affect the ability to function and concentrate on daily activities.

“Spring allergens such as grass, weeds and pollen can have a big impact on our day-to-day lives. Allergy sufferers can be constantly fatigued and not feeling well, which can affect our performance and even lead to absence from work or school,” says Pharmacist and seasonal allergy sufferer Dipen Kalaria, Director of Specialty Pharmacy Services, Pharmacy.ca.

“Symptoms from an allergic reaction, including nasal congestion and a dry, itchy throat and cough, can attack at any time,” says Kalaria, a trusted, go-to source with 15 years experience helping Canadians relieve allergy symptoms. “In some cases, you may not have your allergy medication on-hand, but there are some quick and easy ways to temporarily relieve symptoms. Something as simple as a HALLS MENTHO-LYPTUS cough drop can help soothe that irritated throat or relieve congestion, often in just seconds.”

Much like the common cold, seasonal allergies are characterized by symptoms affecting the mouth and respiratory system; such as coughing, sneezing, nasal congestion and an itchy, irritated throat. When these symptoms arise, it is often hard to distinguish between an allergic reaction and a cold.

Here are a few key differentiators:
•	Symptoms from allergies often arise quickly, whereas cold symptoms increase gradually and can last between 7 and 10 days;
•	Allergies never cause fever or generalized aches and pains;
•	Allergies are more common to cause itchy, sticky eyes;
•	Allergies are often worse in the morning.

“Since many key symptoms of a cough also affect allergy sufferers, it makes sense to help relieve these symptoms the same way, wherever possible,” says Kalaria. “As Canada’s leading cough drop, HALLS has been providing relief to Canadians during the cough, cold and flu season for decades, but many people don’t really think about HALLS to help soothe allergy-induced symptoms, including nasal congestion and an irritated throat. Easy-to-carry HALLS MENTHO-LYPTUS cough drops can help temporarily relieve symptoms while you’re waiting for your allergy medication to kick in, or in between doses,” adds Dipen.

Managing Your Symptoms
Sensitivity to seasonal allergens can begin in early childhood and last throughout one’s life, so it is important to develop a routine to try to avoid allergens and manage symptoms. Both over-the-counter and prescribed medications are available to sufferers to control symptoms, but there are also a number of alternate measures that people can take to help improve their symptoms.

Here are some tips from Pharmacist Dipen Kalaria for managing spring allergens:

•	Keep home and office windows and doors closed and keep car windows and sunroofs closed when traveling;
•	Use air purifiers - if possible with HEPA filters that are designed to remove nearly all airborne particles;
•	Change your clothes when you get home and shower before bedtime to remove any pollen from your hair;
•	Avoid hanging laundry outside;
•	Pollen levels are highest in the morning hours between 6 and 10 a.m., so limit your outdoor exposure during these times – dry, windy days are the most problematic;

HALLS is Canada’s top-selling cough drop – a leader in providing solutions that temporarily relieve coughs, soothe sore throats and irritation, relieve nasal congestion and help people feel better. The Advanced Vapour Action* formula found in HALLS MENTHO-LYPTUS cough drops works fast to temporarily relieve coughs and soothe sore throats during cough, cold and flu season and can also help temporarily relieve the same symptoms in seasonal allergy sufferers. HALLS offers a variety of products, including HALLS MENTHO-LYPTUS (Regular, Extra Strong, No Sugar Added and HALLS Centres), and HALLS Vitamin C*, which helps maintain good health.
I discovered this new line of natural pita chips from In Snax, a new food company from Montréal. This healthy chip alternative, offered in three flavours, fulfills the needs of active Canadians who want to eat healthy, without sacrificing quality and taste. As well as containing up to 70% less fat and less sodium than regular chip brands, In Snax products are an excellent source of fiber, contain no Trans fat, are oven-baked with sunflower oil and are produced in a peanut-free factory.

I tried out their three flavours, and here’s what I thought:

Sea salt: A little bland to be honest. Mine didn’t taste like salt at all. We quickly switched to the other kind.

Multigrain & Garden Herbs: Much better. We got some flavor out of the chip, and we really appreciated the snack.

Cinnamon with a touch of sugar: We were afraid at first - it’s not everyday that a chip company offers a “dessert chip”. BUT, for me, this one was the best. Really. REALLY!
It was really good and tasty, and they even suggest you dip it into chocolate, which I will do next time.

There you have it! My Healthy Snack Pita Chip tryout.
Keep the taste-tests coming! I’m ready!

Happy snackin’ !
Only because the texture of the cake around the gooey middle is somewhat weird - reminiscent of a cake mix that’s not fully cooked yet.

But other than that, it is very delicious, either reheated in the oven or in the microwave (i preferred the microwave version), it is very easy to get ready and serve in a few minutes, and it made me look absolutely fabulous when I got this to the table.

I say YES! Go and buy it, now!

Happy M&M shopping!

Are you from another planet or something?

That’s why I went overboard today when I received a notice that M&M stores were making these fabulous Lavalicious Chocolate cakes.

Here’s what they have to say about it:
“A premium, single-serve dessert perfect for any occasion and guaranteed to satisfy every chocolate lover’s fantasy.”

Single-serve and chocolate in the same sentence? Count me in.
Where’s the nearest M&M store?

Happy single-serve chocolateness.
